These working dogs are naturals at helping shepherds tend their flocks. The sheep’s milk is used to make Idiazabal cheese, which you will sample with a glass of Txacoli wine. After a leisurely stroll through this fairy-like community, you'll continue your scenic drive to Beemster Polder, the oldest area of reclaimed land in the Netherlands. In 1999, this well-preserved and historic area was registered on UNESCO's World Heritage Site list. The highlight of your time here will be the visit to an original 17th century windmill where you will learn how the Dutch have managed to successfully live below sea level.

Amsterdam, sometimes also referred to as Venice of the North, is famous for its Canal Ring area which dates to the 17th century and is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spread out over 70 islands, this cosmopolitan city boasts 60 miles of canals and about a thousand bridges. Amsterdam is most famous for its narrow, gabled houses lining the canals. Today, you will discover this lovely city on foot and by water.

Experience Bruges like a local by exploring areas off the beaten path but still in the shadow of landmarks such as Kruispoort. Although you will stop at this 15th-century gate, the sites that lie ahead will reveal a lesser-known but not less spectacular side of Bruges. You will see windmills along medieval ramparts, follow atmospheric lanes through residential neighborhoods and pause at the bridges and inner canals that gave Bruges its nickname, the Venice of the North. Upon arriving in St. Anne’s, you will behold the Jerusalem Chapel, which was designed to mirror the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. By the 16th century, Bruges had become a textile center for woven lace, and you will observe a demonstration of this artisan trade that continues to flourish. Enjoy a leisurely drive past the key landmarks in Germany’s second-largest city with stops for shopping and to explore Hamburg’s beloved St. Michael’s church. After departing from the pier, you will soon begin touring Hamburg, a sprawling city on the meandering Elbe River. Charlemagne founded Hamburg in 810 A.D., so there are plenty of historical sites even though much of the city was destroyed in the fire of 1842 and by Allied bombing during World War II.
