Korea is rich with traditional markets packed with the ingredients to delight chefs and foodies alike. Jagalchi is Korea's largest fish market and features a stunning array of the ocean's bounty. Many varieties of both fresh and dried seafood can be purchased and cooked on site for on-the-spot enjoyment. Nearby Gukje is an international market made up of a delightful labyrinth of stall-packed streets selling everything from the freshest food to local souvenirs.

One of the most beautiful temples in Busan, its unusual location by the sea adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Expect to climb 108 steps to get a closer look at this amazing landmark, which boasts a three-story pagoda decorated with lions. Once inside, your guide will explain the legend of the Great Goddess Buddha, who lives in the sea and is said to appear on the back of a dragon.

This fascinating excursion starts with a Korean BBQ. The term Korean barbecue or Gogigui (meat roast) in Korean refers to the Korean method of roasting various types of meat and vegetable. Such dishes are often prepared at the diner's table on gas or charcoal grills that are built into the table itself. Galbi (grilled spareribs) dishes are popular in Busan. You will visit one of Korea's top five galbi restaurants. Enjoy the Korean authentic BBQ which are served with only the highest-grade beef.

This gigantic, modern jjimjilbang (Korean-style sauna/spa) is located inside the Shinsegae Centum City department store. Furnished with hot tubs, showers, Korean traditional kiln saunas and massage tables, the facility uses hot spring water with sodium bicarbonate, which is pulled up from a depth of 3,280 feet underground in its 22 different hot springs and 13 spas, each with a unique theme. Visitor favorites include a radiant heat-based Roman Sauna, which recreates the ancient roman bath using modern technology, and the traditional Finnish Sauna, which is an all-natural, Finnish-style sauna said to keep you healthy during the freezing winter months.

Situated near the rocky east coast of Taiwan, Taroko Gorge National Park offers a fabulous opportunity to see nature at its best. This astounding 12 mile-long canyon is a breathtaking spectacle of craggy rocks and cascading water and it is largely unspoiled! Discover a wide array of geological wonders with numerous photo stops and gentle walks, while your guide introduces you to the indigenous flora and fauna.

Located right near the Kannonzaki viewpoint and Fusaki Beach, this sacred site pays tribute to the tragic events of 1852, when an American/British ship transporting Chinese workers to California wrecked off Ishigaki's rocky coast. The Chinese influence is seen in the building's architecture, decorative pieces and monuments.

Situated in the northern part of the city, where the Pacific Ocean meets the East China Sea, the Tamatorizaki Observatory provides spectacular views all the way to Ibaruma Bay and Hirakubozaki on clear days. The pathway from the entrance to the observation deck is planted with an abundance of gorgeous hibiscus flowers that bloom year round. Set against the stunning seascape, the lush hills of the Hirakubo Peninsula offer views that are truly breathtaking and ever changing.

Ishigaki has a long history of producing fine food products, clothing and crafts. An island tour highlights many of these local treasures and offers a wonderful opportunity to see the sights.

Sengan-en (Iso Garden) was constructed in 1658 by Daimyo Shimazu Mitsuhisa, the feudal clan that controlled Kagoshima and the Satsuma-hanto Peninsula from the Feudal Era to the Meiji Restoration of 1868 (Edo period; 17th through mid-19th centuries). With Sakurajima and Kagoshima Bay as its backdrop (weather permitting), Sengan-en boasts cherry blossoms in the spring, and a variety of plants and trees that make for an interesting landscape, as well as small ponds, streams, shrines and a bamboo grove.

Your half-day tour begins as you board your motorcoach and travel south to the Satsuma-hanto Peninsula, a mountainous, geothermal wonderland of hot springs. Your first stop is Chiran, the stronghold of the Shimazu samurai during Japan's Feudal Era.

Board your air-conditioned motorcoach for the short drive to Senganen (Iso Garden), designed during the 17th century for Kagoshima's ruling daimyo, Shimazu Mitsuhisa. This superb formal garden offers stunning views of Sakurajima and Kagoshima Bay (weather permitting). The grounds include a mansion and the Shoko Shuseikan Museum.

Your half-day narrated tour begins as you board your motorcoach for a short transfer to Kagoshima port. Upon arriving, you'll travel by ferry for nearly 15 minutes to Sakurajima, one of Japan's most active volcanoes. Considered the symbol of Kagoshima, Sakurajima rises over 3,600 feet above the waters of Kagoshima Bay. The volcano has erupted many times and is still mildly active today with minor eruptions taking place multiple times per day. After a visit to Arimura Lava Observatory for sweeping views of the crater and the island's lava fields (weather permitting), you'll hop on board the ferry back to Kagoshima port. Here, you'll board your motorcoach for a drive to Sengan-en (Iso Garden).

Hot springs heat the sand to approximately 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Upon arriving at the hotel, you'll don a kimono and sit back as you're covered with warm sand up to your neck, followed by a shower and a Japanese-style bath.

Depart from the pier and your first destination is Adachi Museum of Art. Housing an impressive collection dating from 1912 to the present, including works by Yokoyama Taikan, one of the major figures in Japanese modern art, the Adachi Museum of Art, founded in 1980, is known not only for its galleries of pottery, wood carvings and artwork but also for its extraordinary gardens. Considered to be the most beautiful gardens in Japan, it is home to a moss garden, a pond garden, a tea garden and a pine tree garden set off by stark white gravel. Your next stop is Yushi-en Garden. Located on Daikon Island, Yushi-en is a breathtaking garden of over 40,000 square meters that thrives through all four seasons. Established in 1975 as a private garden, the grounds feature an array of landscape elements from gardens to waterfalls, streams and rock gardens. Yushien's main attraction is its collection of Japanese peony flowers, with over 250 different types that bloom in an array of colors. Then return to your ship by comfortable coach.

Don't miss this fantastic glimpse into the local culture of the town of Mihonoseki, located at the eastern tip of the Shimane peninsula. Somewhat off the beaten path, this historic harbor was an important trading port in feudal Japan and the sea continues to hold a spiritual hold on the town; in fact; the locals say that Mihonoseki connects the gods and the sea to the people.

Board your motorcoach and drive south and west to the Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugi. Founded in 1970, the Museum features one of the finest modern gardens in Japan and a collection of over 1,000 Japanese paintings from 1912 on. The Museum boasts a large number of works by Yokoyama Taikan, considered one of the major figures in Japanese modern art.

A genuine Japanese sword is produced with a type of steel called tamahagane and manufactured in a traditional type of forge called a tatara using an ancient process. Okuizumo is the only town in Japan today that still uses this method. This informative museum details the production process through dynamic exhibits, videos and photography, and it displays an impressive collection of swords as well as a replica of an early tatara forge. Here, a master swordsmith, Mr. Kobayashi Shunji, will give a demonstration of a piece of tamahagane being worked. A sword-wielding demonstration concludes this exciting visit.

This tunnel complex built in 1944 served as an underground headquarters by 3,000 men of the Yamane Division of the Japanese Navy Engineering Corps. Located on a hill 242 feet above sea level, it overlooks the airport and port. Dug 65-feet-deep, you'll descend 105 steps down through the 1,476-foot-long underground air-raid shelter that was solidly built with concrete to endure the violent bombardments of the U.S. armed forces and to allow long-drawn-out fighting. Inside you'll find the commanding officer's room, staff and equipment rooms.

A detailed theme park centered around Okinawan heritage, Okinawa World is entered through the huge, natural Gyokusendo Cave, the second largest in the country, formed over 300,000 years ago. The park's main attractions in addition to the massive natural cave are the Kingdom Village, a scenic replica of a traditional Ryukyu village with demonstrations and shops featuring traditional crafts. If time allows, you can also watch a traditional "eisa" performance, with impressive drumming and dancing.

Built around the 12th century, the remains of the oldest castle in Okinawa command the summit of a steep hill. Climb a long flight of steps to be rewarded by the stone walls and foundations of this designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the 15th century, Katsuren Castle was the seat of Lord Amawari. Legend tells that as a sickly child he was abandon in the mountains to die but defied the odds, became a powerful leader, and successfully overtook the oppressive lord of Katsuren Castle, claiming it for his own.

Perhaps the most sacred site in Okinawa, Seifa Utaki means "purified place of Utaki." According to ancient texts, the goddess Amamikyu came here, gave birth, and her descendants populated the islands. A place of natural wonders, the UNESCO World Heritage Site features ceremonial altars that were created from the natural stone outcroppings and dirt and stone pathways that wind through the forests and clearings. Stalactites drip "holy water" into pots once used to tell fortunes. This has been a sacred site since the earliest period of Okinawan history, and people still come here to pray and meditate, so please be respectful as you explore this special place.

One of the three largest pine forests in Japan, this beautiful natural area of deep blue waters, white sand and emerald pines is a masterpiece of scenic beauty. The pine grove consists of 17,000 towering pine trees of both Japanese red and black species that are over 200 years old. In this lovely recreation area, there are times when debris from the sea rushes over the pines, and local volunteer efforts are needed to clean the area and restore it to a tranquil spot for the community.

An incredibly lifelike Tyrannosaurus Rex greets visitors as they enter The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum and and take futuristic escalator down. Dedicated to dinosaur research and education, it is recognized as one of the top dinosaur museums in the world and is the largest of its kind in Japan. Located in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, the center of dinosaur research in Japan and home to the country's most extensive excavation site, the modern museum spans four floors and features a Dinosaur World exhibition with over 40 dinosaur skeletons on display. The Earth Sciences exhibition teaches how life emerged on this planet, and the History of Life corner depicts the evolution of life from one-celled organisms to the emergence of mankind. The museum includes hands-on zones, a research laboratory where you can watch scientists clean fossils, a movie theater, a restaurant and a museum shop.

Mt. Baijodake rises above Mikata-goko, an area of five small lakes interconnected by narrow channels within Wakasa quasi-national park. A cable car affords magnificent views of a Japanese certified scenic spot. At the summit, in addition to panoramic vistas, visitors can throw a clay pot with a wish written on it, "Kawarakenage," or hang a padlock called "The Key of Vows" for a loving relationship. There is also a pretty rose garden with 80 different varieties.

Designated as a national historical relic site, Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins is one of the largest castle town ruins in Japan. Five generations of the Asakura clan ruled the territory and cultural center from 1471 to 1573. Today, the dwellings, buildings and roads within the ruins have been restored to good condition allowing visitors to stroll through time and learn about the lives of those who once resided here. Replica furnishings, gardens and an observation platform affording views of the entire castle town offer an immersive experience.

The origin of lacquerware in Fukui can be traced back 1,500 years. Legend tells that the 26th emperor, when a young prince, commissioned lacquer painters from the area to repair his crown. So happy was he with the results that he encouraged the artisans in Fukui to produce more pieces. Lacquerware involves the application of applying the sap of the "urushi" lacquer tree. Originally used as an adhesive in Asia during the Stone Age, the repeated coating technique used today is a highly praised art form. The three-step process involves the creation of the main structure, intense coatings of lacquer and finally decorations, which are done by hand using gold and silver paint and other finishing touches.

Take a scenic drive from pier to Hikone Castle. This castle was completed in 1622 by Ii Naotsugu, the second lord of Ii family. The donjon has three stories, rises 24 metres and has white walls with beautifully variegated roofs. The castle is a National Treasure, while Tenbin Yagura (turret) and the other buildings are Important Cultural Properties. Afterwards, spend time at Genkyu Garden. Built in 1677, this beautiful scenic spot was an imitation of the Imperial Villa of China Tang Dynasty.

Following a long history of warfare with it neighbor, Japan defeated the Qing dynasty in 1896 and occupied Korea until the end of World War II followed by a civil war. Then, in 1950, hoping to unify Korea under a Communist government, the north launched a surprise attack and quickly gained control of most of the south. The United Nations intervened and sent troops to help South Korea. North Korean troops drove UN forces down the Korean peninsula to Busan but the city was one of the few cities that was not destroyed or invaded during the Korea War.

Amazing relics and artifacts excavated from around Busan and the tombs of the nearby burial ground include ancient helmets, diverse types of earthenware and iron-made weapons from the pre-historic era to the Three Kingdom period that spanned from the 1st century B.C. to the 6th century A.D.
