Your driver-guide recounts the history of Juneau's gold rush as you depart downtown en route to monumental Mendenhall Glacier. This meandering river of compressed blue ice ranks as the largest glacier accessible by road in southeast Alaska. It runs a half-mile wide, hundreds of feet deep and is fed by the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Icefield. The U.S. Forest Service staff offers a wealth of information on glaciers during your 1.25-hour visit and the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center features exhibits, interactive videos and a panoramic view of the glacier. Don't forget your camera, as the center offers the perfect vantage point for photos of this world-famous sight. Explore the numerous self-guided walking trails to experience the special beauty of Tongass National Forest and allows ever-changing glimpses of the glacier.

Upon arrival your experienced, friendly guide will hand out life jackets and rain gear before teaching you paddling techniques. Then you will board the two-person kayaks, with either a new friend or traveling companion, for your thrilling adventure.

Your trip begins with a scenic, narrated motorcoach ride to the beautiful Mendenhall Lake. There, you'll be treated to an excellent view of the glacier - a half-mile wide and over one hundred feet high at the face.

Transfer from the pier to the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery where you'll embark on a tour of the facility, watch salmon swim upstream in the man-made fish ladder and learn more about salmon lifecycle and their role in Alaska history and cuisine.. Guests can experience the thrill of catching salmon without boarding a small boat. Perfect for families, fish from a picturesque spot with dock and shoreline access with the help of knowledgeable staff. Salmon are abundant in the waters, but varieties are seasonal. King salmon are available in May and June, keta salmon in June and July, and pink salmon and silver salmon in August through September. Arrangements can be made to ensure that your catch is safely shipped home. Raingear, boots, nets, poles and lures are supplied.

A unique opportunity to experience southeast Alaska's natural history and marine wildlife, this exceptional, award-winning tour is available rain or shine. Discover Alaska's Whales on a Permitted Research Vessel. Not only is this a one-of-a-kind whale watching experience, but you'll be aboard a permitted research vessel and participate in various hand's-on science activities while a naturalist explains the habits and habitats of the creatures you may encounter. From the pier you'll travel to Auke Bay and board your vessel, which features a heated cabin, large panel windows and an open bow and stern so you won't miss any of the action. The boats were custom-designed by local captain and company owner Bob Janes to ensure a closer connection to the area's incredible beauty and majestic wildlife. Once a whale is spotted, the captain will slow down for exceptional viewing and photo opportunities. Given the right situation and conditions you may hear the haunting, moaning call of the humpback. Luckily, the vessel is equipped with a hydrophone so you can hear underwater sounds if the opportunity arises. You'll receive a $100 cash refund from the tour operator at the conclusion of the tour if a whale is not sighted.

Flying over southeast Alaska's breathtaking landscape, you will be able to view Mother Nature in all its glory on this wonderful adventure that lasts just over three hours. Your mode of transport for the day is a modern, turbine helicopter, and your expert pilot will set the scene by flying you over the plentiful lush rainforest and stunning granite peaks that surround the magnificent Juneau Icefield.

You'll get to see Alaska's frontier lumberjacks battle British Columbia's premier woodsmen in a no-holds-barred competition for the title "Bull of the Woods." These world champion athletes are featured in springboard chopping, buck sawing, axe throwing, log rolling and the thrilling 50-foot tree climb, while the colorful host delights the crowd with stories of lumberjack lore

Once at the shoreline of Lake Harriet Hunt, you'll be outfitted with a life jacket and poncho then board a 37-foot Native-style canoe that's fast, stable and easy to maneuver. Paddling under the direction of an experienced guide, you can scan the shore for wildlife and learn about the natural and Native history of the Ketchikan area. Back on shore, you'll set out on a short nature hike with your guide who'll share his knowledge of the forest's flora and fauna including the sundew, a carnivorous plant that uses tentacles with an adhesive "dew" to ensnare small insects. Your professional guides will instruct and outfit you with equipment in an open-air rainforest pavilion. Then let gravity pull you through the rainforest canopy along a series of eight ziplines and eight connecting elements. You will catch glimpses of bald eagles and the ocean below as you zoom through old growth cedars. Traverse a swaying log, swing across rope loops and feel the speed of and acceleration of landing onto an ocean platform high above the water. Step upstairs to the celebrated brothel museum and explore the hallway, bedrooms and priceless artifacts left behind by the "soiled doves" of yesteryear. Your adventure begins as you board your motorcoach for a ride through the historic streets of downtown Skagway past wooden walkways to Dredgetown. Once there, you'll meet your guide and watch a video presentation introducing you to dogs of the Klondike Gold Rush and highlights what winter dog sledding is like today, before enjoying a sled dog demonstration. You'll get to meet, and interact with, the Iditarod sled dogs and their puppies, stopping first by the checkpoint tent with your musher. Inside, you'll be introduced to all the gear a musher and dog team takes with them on a long distance race like the Iditarod. Finally, your musher will introduce you to the team and then hook the dogs to a sled so you can watch a demonstration run.

Your journey begins at the dock where you'll board a van on a 20-minute narrated drive through historic downtown Skagway and then up the Klondike Highway.
