Colorful fruit trees, vast rice paddies and charming villages are a constant source of beauty as you drive. The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Wildlife department. A 24-acre elephant orphanage, it is also used as a breeding ground for elephants. More than 20 elephants have been born here since 1984, and it is renowned for being home to the world's largest herd of elephants in captivity. Once acclimated to a lifestyle in captivity, the elephants are unable to care for themselves in the wild. As a result, there are now over 60 animals roaming the sanctuary, and adorable babies are often spotted with the families. Originally created to attract tourism, the orphanage has developed into a conservation and education center. At Pinnawela, animals roam freely. You will have a chance to view these gentle giants, as they would behave in the wild. A high point for any visitor is an opportunity to witness the feeding of Elephants, and to watch the animals bathe along the river's edge.

Situated on the west coast of Sri Lanka, Negombo is home to some of Asia's most picturesque beaches and glamorous oceanfront hotel properties. With miles of golden sand stretching out before you, a day spent along the coast is relaxing and rich in scenic beauty. You will be graced with a welcome beverage upon your arrival, and a reserved beach sun-bed with towels awaits. The turquoise blue waters lap in before you, beckoning you to enjoy a refreshing swim. You will have a total of four hours at the beach, which includes the time for your lunch. Long recognized as a leader in the conservation of rare and endangered Asian species, the Zoo is home to 24 orangutans, the world's largest social group of orangutans in a zoo setting. This valley's soil is rich with red volcanic minerals formed from the eroded basalt that makes up the coastline. Depart Burnie we make our way to the Don River Railway, taking in the highlights of Devonport. Our first stop will be the Maritime Museum, aptly situated at the Pilot Station and built for the Devonport Harbour Master in 1920. This Australian National Trust property built in 1916 was the home of former Australian Prime Minister Joseph Lyons, his wife Dame Enid Lyons and their 12 children. Home Hill was the heart of the family's life, although politics meant parents and children were often separated. The rich collection of personal material provides an unexpected insight into Australian political life and international relations during the momentous events of the mid twentieth century. Designed by Henry Hellyer, architect, it was built in 1834 as a residence for Edward Curr, chief agent for the British Van Diemen's Land Company, which had been granted 250,000 acres in Stanley by King George IV.
