The collection includes colonial tents, interactive World War I and II displays and historical photos of local soldiers fighting in Korea and Vietnam. The Air Force Museum will shed light on Townsville’s rich aviation heritage through a variety of military planes and artifacts. Code-breakers also played an important role in Townsville during World War II, and you will pause for photos of a rather non-descript house where they secretly deciphered enemy communications. The efforts of the code-breakers supported General Douglas MacArthur’s Southwest Pacific Area command.

Ride the ferry across Cleveland Bay to the landmark lighthouse that rises above Cape Cleveland and then enjoy a leisurely tea. The cape juts into the sea just east of Townsville and the trip over there will be immensely scenic, as much of the cape is densely forested and completely undeveloped. You will disembark at the beach and walk up to the 19th-century lighthouse, which was the first one built in Townsville. Now an official Queensland Heritage Site, the lighthouse features a circular tower and several homestead cottages around the grounds. From the base of the lighthouse, you will have a spectacular view of the bay, Magnetic Island and the Coral Sea beyond. You may even spot green sea turtles swimming in the crystal-clear waters right below the lighthouse. Inside, you will be served a delightful tea complete with fresh-baked scones and delicious local jams.

Stroll along Circular Quay with your guide and step into the past as you discover old pubs, sandstone cottages, and terrace homes that contrast sharply with Sydney's modern skyline.
