The bucolic area surrounding the charming hamlet of Kerikeri is regarded as Northland's fruit capital. Among the persimmon and kiwifruit orchards sits the Kerikeri Mission Station, home to New Zealand's oldest standing European buildings. Also known as Kemp House, the quaint two-story home dates back to 1819 and the adjacent Stone Store, built between 1832 and 1836, were both part of the Church Mission Settlement established in 1819.

Located about three miles from the town of Paihia in a hidden valley on the beautiful and peaceful Waitangi River, Haruru was once the site of of New Zealand's first river port exporting majestic kauri trees. At the departure point, your experienced guides will outfit you with the proper gear and offer instructions. Once you've hopped into your kayak, you'll shove off into the sheltered waters of the Waitangi inlet, a haven for nesting birds. Soon, you'll glide through an enchanting mangrove forest and up to the unique horseshoe-shaped Haruru waterfall where you'll hear the thunder of water on rocks as the water cascades over the horseshoe-shaped falls.

The Ngapuhi Tribe of the Bay of Islands is the largest group of Maori in New Zealand and a Ngapuhi family member will lead you on your waka journey. Wakas are Maori canoes that can be used for fishing and river travel and range in size from small, unornamented canoes to decorated war canoes that can reach 130 feet in length. As your waka voyage begins you will feel and sense the spiritually of this journey as you paddle your way up the peaceful and tranquil waters of the Waitangi River aboard a 50-foot replica of a traditional Maori waka. Along the way, you'll hear stories about the landscapes and Maori culture, learn Maori songs and chants, and view local wildlife.

Designed for comfort, the "power-cat" catamaran features comfortable indoor and open-deck seating, During your cruise, you'll sail past the historic Cape Brett Lighthouse, the only historic lighthouse managed by the Department of Conservation with its internal workings still in place, and the famous 98-foot-tall Cathedral Cave, one of the longest sea caves in the world. The captain will circle Piercy Island, also known as Motukokako Island, at the outermost limits of the Bay of Islands, and weather permitting, sail through the Hole in the Rock. As one of the most popular fishing, sailing and tourist destinations in the country, the Bay of Islands is renowned internationally for its big-game fishing. Ideal for novice and more experienced anglers, all gear, including bait and tackle, will be supplied. Passengers will be put into small groups of generally up to eight people per boat with a rod and reel supplied for each angler. Small angler numbers are organized to ensure everyone has an opportunity for the best individual fishing experience possible. The friendly and knowledgeable skipper and crew will offer expert advice and tips and soon, you'll be in pursuit of blue cod, terakihi, trevally and snapper.

This half-day cycling excursion is perfect for the whole family. A gentle gradient and smooth surface, plus plenty of rest stops, make it an easy ride for cyclists of all ages and fitness levels. The Kaikohe-Okaihau section of the trail takes you on a gentle tour of rural Northland, over good terrain and with no steep gradients. Some of the sights include Kaikohe, noted as the site of early Maori-European contact; Ngawha Springs, which sits in the center of a geothermally active area; Lake Omapere, the Far North's largest natural lake; Okaihau, the hub of early agricultural settlement; and a 100-year-old rail tunnel.

Dunedin is the old Gaelic name for Edinburgh, and many Scottish influences are seen throughout this fair city, making it quite different from anywhere else in New Zealand or Australia. Of all New Zealand cities, Dunedin boasts the largest concentration of Victorian and Edwardian buildings due to its rapid growth before and just after the turn of the century. Soak up the grandeur of its architecture from the classical ANZ Bank to the Octagon, an eight-sided plaza that forms the core of Dunedin's lively business district and provides views of notable landmarks like the Town Hall, the Municipal Chambers and St. Paul's Cathedral-all watched over by a statue of poet Robert Burns.

A thrilling two-hour cruise showcases the abundant wildlife in its natural habitat and the scenic beauty of the Otago Peninsula. The MV Monarch is a nimble sightseeing vessel that cruises from picturesque Port Chalmers along the Otago Peninsula, rich in geological and historical significance. Arrive at Taiaroa Head, unique in the world for the variety of the bird and marine life found here, including an albatross breeding colony that is now a protected nature reserve and is home to around 140 birds. Held aloft on slim wings up to 10 feet across, they provide awesome aerial displays.

A world-leading conservation and research facility, the Blue Penguin Colony is an opportunity to glimpse these adorable penguins. Though they are visible around the colony at night, if you're lucky, you may be able to see this nocturnal bird during the day at a viewing facility that allows you to look into the top of 10 nesting boxes. Every year, adult birds come to Oamaru's shores between May and June to find the perfect nesting site and lay two eggs from August to November.

Built between 1873 and 1877, this magnificent neo-Gothic estate was built for William and Eliza Larnach and their six children by renowned architect Robert Arthur Larson and commands the highest point on the Otago Peninsula. Approximately 200 men spent three years building the shell of the 40,000-square-foot mansion overlooking Dunedin, Otago Harbour and the Otago Peninsula. Then a team of European craftsmen stepped in to finish the interior, including a 3,000-square-foot ballroom added for the 21st birthday of Larnach's favorite daughter, with a lavish array of masterful embellishments. Established in the 1870s, Glenfalloch, which means "hidden valley," has been designated as Garden of Regional Significance" by the New Zealand Garden Trust.Here, meandering walkways ribbon through spectacular floral displays of magnolias, rhododendrons, fuchsias, and azaleas, among many floral species. Exotic plants, ferns and native trees, including a 1,000-year-old matai tree, and beautiful panoramic vistas across the harbor make this 30-acre oasis of tranquility and natural beauty a joy to explore.

The most prominent peaks in Dunedin, in Maori legend, the three peaks of Mount Cargill represent the head, body and feet of an Otakou tribe Princess Cruises. The Mount Cargill hike is most suited to those who are physically fit. The climb ascends through a forest of secondary growth to be rewarded with views of Otago Harbour, Mihiwaka, Mount Kettle, Blueskin Bay and the Silver Peaks. Head into Mount Cargill's native bush, containing broadleaf, tree fuchsia, pepperwood, mountain cedar, emergent totara and many lush ferns as well as the Organ Pipes. Continue through manuka, kanuka and dracophyllum scrub, finally emerging at Butters Peak, 2,000 feet above sea level.

Get some exercise and enjoy the magnificent views of the Otago Peninsula when you tour by mountain bike from secluded Hooper's Inlet to Victory Beach in the Okia Reserve. Set off caravan-style on a route that takes you on quiet, gravel roads and passes a variety of stunning landscapes. The reserve is home to a variety of native fauna, such as yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and the endangered New Zealand sea lions. Okia is also significant for its importance to the Maori people because of their early ancestral living sites.

Day One starts with a motor launch transfer ashore to Milford before boarding your coach. Depart Milford Sound village and drive along the swiftly flowing Cleddau River. Ascend to the Homer Tunnel which is 3/4 mile long. Travel over the Homer saddle before entering the Eglinton Valley where beech-covered mountains frame the view of distant peaks. Pass Lakes Fergus and Gunn before arriving at Lake Te Anau where your lunch will be served.

Marlborough is New Zealand's largest wine-growing region and is responsible for 79 percent of New Zealand's wine production. Vines Village, in the heart of the region, offers flat, easy biking trails that meander past beautiful scenery and lush vineyards. The tour allows for several stops at welcoming wineries for a chance to sip from the cellar door. The route is approximately four miles, with a number of stops along the way. Bikes are recreational-style with comfortable seats and helmets provided. The ride is suitable for all fitness levels.

Discover the serenity and beauty of Queen Charlotte Sound from the seat of a kayak. Meet your guides and receive your double-seat kayak, equipment, route orientation and safety briefing. Set out along Queen Charlotte Sound and enjoy the beauty of the rugged coastline, dotted with bays, coves and small sandy beaches. No previous kayaking experience is required, but a good level of fitness and mobility is needed. Expect to paddle for two hours, sometimes in breezy conditions requiring sustained strenuous exertion. Prepare to get a little wet.

Three premium wine estates invite you in for a tasting on this lovely half-day adventure that journeys through the countryside to Marlborough's wine trail. Marlborough contains more than 60 wineries and produces 79 percent of all New Zealand wines. The region's cool climate and sandy loam soils are ideally suited for fine Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, and Merlot and Pinot Noir also do well in the area's long-ripening growing season. But the real showstopper is the Sauvignon Blanc, which accounts for one third of the region's planted grapes. Visit three leading wine estates and enjoy a tasting at each establishment.

Active travelers will enjoy getting out into nature on a walk that takes in the best of New Zealand's dramatic landscape. Embark on a 90-minute jaunt along Peninsula Loop, a section of the Queen Charlotte Track, a 44-mile-long trail system that travels from historic Ship Cove to Anikawa. The loop travels along skyline ridges, offering views of both Mistletoe and Waterfall Bay. Listen to the bird calls as you trek through lush, mature coastal forest studded with kamahi, tree ferns and manuka trees.

It's a short walk from the ship to your well-appointed catamaran, featuring an open deck area, an enclosed salon with large viewing ports, and restrooms. Set off into the calm waters of Queen Charlotte Sound, formed during the end of the last ice age, when water filled the valley almost 10,000 years ago. Kaipupu Wildlife Sanctuary is a mainland island sanctuary accessible by a short boat trip from Picton. Protected by a predator-proof fence, the birdlife and wildlife here are flourishing. A community project, this outdoor environment with regenerated native brush, a mature beech forest, and scenic lookout points offers a two-mile loop track that affords wonderful views of the lower sounds, indigenous birdlife and a variety of shorebirds that perch along the rocky coastline.

Your narrated drive begins at the pier where we'll travel to The Rocks, Sydney's birthplace and historic city center. The Rocks was established shortly after the colony's formation in 1788. The original buildings were made mostly of sandstone from which its name is derived. Now a popular tourist attraction, The Rocks features galleries, shops and pubs with several historic drinking establishments claiming to be the oldest in Sydney.

Tucked in the Whakarewarewa Valley, the reserve boasts silica terraces, pools of boiling mud and dramatic steams vents. Here, you'll join a friendly Maori guide for a fascinating tour of the valley and a traditional Maori cultural performance. Enjoy demonstrations of fighting skills, the famous haka war challenge, plus song and dance activities still practiced by New Zealand's indigenous peoples.

The awe-inspiring Waimangu Volcanic Valley is a protected scenic reserve and wildlife refuge just waiting to be explored. Once you arrive, you'll follow your guide on a mile-and-a-half trek into the heart of the park for close-up views of this "thermal wonderland.

Surrounded by beech trees and the Saint Arnaud Range mountain range, the 269-foot-deep lake is renowned as one of the most beautiful lakes in the region. Upon arrival, your highly trained and knowledgeable guide will share the myths and legends of the local Maori people as you paddle onto the lake. Revel in the beautiful expansive scenery, geothermal vents, native bush, Kiwi baches (holiday homes) and abundant birdlife towards the hidden entrance of a cave that's filled with glittering glow worms. Known as New Zealand's "Heart of Gold," the Martha Gold Mine was the richest underground gold mine in New Zealand. From 1878 to its closure in 1952, it produced over 192 tons of gold and silver. The mine found new life in 1987 as an open-pit mine and is currently in use. Once in Waihi, you'll be welcomed by a friendly host over morning tea at the charming Sterling Hotel where some of the era's characters and stories will be introduced. Following a tour of the Cornish Pumphouse, you'll embark on an exclusive inside-the-fence tour of the massive Martha Gold Mine. Then, take a ride aboard the Goldfields Heritage Railway just like the miners did a century ago.

Nestled in the iconic rolling hills and lush green pastures, the Hobbiton set from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy sits in a 1,250-acre sheep farm in the tiny farming community of Matamata.
