The adventure begins as soon as you board your luxurious, high-speed catamaran directly from the cruise ship. Relax in the warm, spacious cabin surrounded by panoramic windows as your experienced captain sails past curious seals resting on floating icebergs.

Your driver-guide recounts the history of Juneau's gold rush as you depart downtown en route to monumental Mendenhall Glacier. This meandering river of compressed blue ice ranks as the largest glacier accessible by road in southeast Alaska. It runs a half-mile wide, hundreds of feet deep and is fed by the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Icefield. The U.S. Forest Service staff offers a wealth of information on glaciers during your 1.25-hour visit and the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center features exhibits, interactive videos and a panoramic view of the glacier. Don't forget your camera, as the center offers the perfect vantage point for photos of this world-famous sight. Explore the numerous self-guided walking trails to experience the special beauty of Tongass National Forest and allows ever-changing glimpses of the glacier.

Upon arrival your experienced, friendly guide will hand out life jackets and rain gear before teaching you paddling techniques. Then you will board the two-person kayaks, with either a new friend or traveling companion, for your thrilling adventure.

Your trip begins with a scenic, narrated motorcoach ride to the beautiful Mendenhall Lake. There, you'll be treated to an excellent view of the glacier - a half-mile wide and over one hundred feet high at the face.

Transfer from the pier to the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery where you'll embark on a tour of the facility, watch salmon swim upstream in the man-made fish ladder and learn more about salmon lifecycle and their role in Alaska history and cuisine.. Guests can experience the thrill of catching salmon without boarding a small boat. Perfect for families, fish from a picturesque spot with dock and shoreline access with the help of knowledgeable staff. Salmon are abundant in the waters, but varieties are seasonal. King salmon are available in May and June, keta salmon in June and July, and pink salmon and silver salmon in August through September. Arrangements can be made to ensure that your catch is safely shipped home. Raingear, boots, nets, poles and lures are supplied.

A unique opportunity to experience southeast Alaska's natural history and marine wildlife, this exceptional, award-winning tour is available rain or shine. Created by Bob and Betty Allen, this family-run company is celebrating 50 years of delivering true Alaskan hospitality and custom building vessels in their own boatyard.

Discover Alaska's Whales on a Permitted Research Vessel. Not only is this a one-of-a-kind whale watching experience, but you'll be aboard a permitted research vessel and participate in various hand's-on science activities while a naturalist explains the habits and habitats of the creatures you may encounter. From the pier you'll travel to Auke Bay and board your vessel, which features a heated cabin, large panel windows and an open bow and stern so you won't miss any of the action. The boats were custom-designed by local captain and company owner Bob Janes to ensure a closer connection to the area's incredible beauty and majestic wildlife. Once a whale is spotted, the captain will slow down for exceptional viewing and photo opportunities. Given the right situation and conditions you may hear the haunting, moaning call of the humpback. Luckily, the vessel is equipped with a hydrophone so you can hear underwater sounds if the opportunity arises. You'll receive a $100 cash refund from the tour operator at the conclusion of the tour if a whale is not sighted.

Flying over southeast Alaska's breathtaking landscape, you will be able to view Mother Nature in all its glory on this wonderful adventure that lasts just over three hours. Your mode of transport for the day is a modern, turbine helicopter, and your expert pilot will set the scene by flying you over the plentiful lush rainforest and stunning granite peaks that surround the magnificent Juneau Icefield.
