This tour is made easier by riding a pedelec - an electrically powered bicycle which assists the rider's pedal power at speeds of up to 25 km/h. Leaving the port, you'll pedal around the harbour basin past Genoa Aquarium and the Old Harbour (Lanterna) all the way to the Porta del Molo. Cycling through the atmospheric narrow "caruggi" streets, you'll come to the Old City Gate (Porta Soprana) and Christopher Columbus' House, located just outside the ancient medieval city walls. From there, you'll continue to Genoa Cathedral and the Piazza De Ferrari, where you'll have a first short stop to admire the beauty of this magnificent square and the nearby Doge's Palace, one of the oldest buildings in the city. Photo break over, you'll leave the old city to visit the famously picturesque village of Boccadasse, where you'll have the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely coffee or a swim from the small but charming beach, surrounded by cafés. Suitably refreshed, you'll cycle back towards the city centre, but turn north before getting there to access a magnificent viewpoint with panoramic vistas of the city. The partly steep and winding road will lead you to the Terrazze Capolinea Funicular Railway Station for a quick coffee break before you make your descent back to the city and port.

Short but sweet, this entertaining tour takes you off the ship to discover the city of Genoa by Segway®, a great means of transport that's not only fun and very green, but also makes for leisurely urban exploration without having to get footsore in the process. Your guided roundup of Genoa's main sights takes you through the town's historical centre and includes views of the 13th- to 16th-century Doges' Palace, the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and Porta Soprana, the best-known section of Genoa's remaining city walls. Your Segway® tour then rolls to a close with your return to the ship.

Leave the ship for a few hours and instead check yourself in to a thoroughly edutational and family-friendly outing for a behind-the-scenes look at Italy's largest aquarium, the Acquario di Genova. Built to coincide with the Genoa Expo in 1992, which in turn commemorated the 500th anniversary of the New World being discovered by Columbus, the aquarium is home to a vast collection of marine wildlife. After a short ferry transfer to the old part of Genoa and the Acquario, you and your family can first enjoy an unguided visit of the various tanks that provide a habitat for tropical fish, sharks, natural coral, penguins and dolphins. At a prearranged time, you'll then proceed on an expertly guided "behind-the-scenes" tour of the facility, during which you'll get to see the on-site laboratories, maintenance and plankton farming activities as well as how the animals are cared for and reared. And among the tank backstage areas, highlights include the jellyfish and dolphin enclosures. Your time at the Expo site wraps up with a little more time to explore on your own before the boat returns you to the ship.

This appealing half-day outing will acquaint you the rich history of Genoa's aristocracy, as showcased in the splendid palaces found along the city's Via Garibaldi. As one of Genoa's oldest sections, Via Garibaldi dates back to the Renaissance era with resplendent edifices that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You'll first meet your guide and then stroll along the time-honored street with inside visits planned at the richly stuccoes Palazzo Nicolosio Lomellino and Palazzo Bianco. Constructed between 1530 and 1540, Palazzo Bianco hosts key art collections by old masters from the 12th- to 17th-century, including Van Dyck, Rubens, Paolo Veronese and forms part of the Le Strade Nuove Museums. These brushes with history will be followed by a break to taste some of the city's world-famous pesto sauce at Palazzo Cattaneo-Adorno before you can enjoy some leisure time on your own. The walk back to Port Antico and your cruise ship then brings the outing to a close.

Milan is the most famous town for fashion and shopping, here you will immerse into its famous designer shops including Gucci, Armani, and Versace, and for its stylish ambience. Take advantage of this tour to have good chance for window browsing and soak up the atmosphere of this famous city. Leave the port for a 2-hour coach drive to Milan and enjoy free time in the city with some good shopping opportunity. At the fixed time, you will meet your coach again to drive back to Genoa port and to your cruise ship.

Dedicate a day to exploring the Eternal City on a gentle biking route through mainly pedestrianised areas and side roads with little traffic. First, though, you'll board a coach for the transfer to Circus Maximus, from where you'll then follow your guide by bike. The escorted tour will take you past such iconic landmarks as the Capitol, Pantheon, the fountains on Piazza Navona, Castel Sant'Angelo, the world-famous Spanish Steps and the equally notable Trevi Fountain, the one in which it is customary to toss a coin for good luck. Also, on the cycling itinerary are views of the Roman Forum, People's Square and Villa Borghese and the Colosseum. A stop is scheduled at St. Peter's Square, home to St. Peter's Basilica, so you can have a bit of a breather and enjoy the surroundings. Your bike ride will also include plenty of stops to take photos of all you see and at the end, you'll rejoin your coach for the relaxing return journey to your ship.

The Eternal City has hosted its annual International Exhibition of Nativity Scenes, your main destination on this all-day outing, for more than four decades now. A 1.5-hour drive to Rome begins the tour, after which you'll enjoy a narrated drive, passing the Pyramid, Baths of Caracalla, Circus Maximus, Arch of Constantine, Colosseum and Via Veneto. Next, you'll get to walk to the Trevi Fountain, Piazza di Spagna at the base of the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon en route to Piazza Navona, one of Rome's famous squares where free time for lunch will be allowed. Finally you will be transferred to St.Peter's, at the exhibition centre, feel free to unleash your inner Christmas elf and browse the beautiful Nativity scenes at your leisure. Coming from all over the world and made of a wide variety of materials, these scenes are a massed celebration of seasonal spirit. Next, you'll have another hour to enjoy a visit of St. Peter's Basilica  along with its Christmas tree in the forecourt  in Vatican City before you return to the ship.

This tour is especially intended for all guests disembarking and wanting to enjoy a sightseeing tour of the eternal city. After boarding a coach, a 1.5-hour drive will take you to Italy's capital city and its wonders. Meet your guide and enjoy a coach drive passing by Rome's main tourist sites including Cestia Pyramid, Caracalla Baths, "Circus Massimus", the Colosseo, the romantic "Lungotevere" and the Dolce Vita's street, Via Veneto, until reaching St. Peter's Square. You will have time to explore on your own and, if you like, visit the Basilica. Your guide will be happy to provide information on the site beforehand. Next, reach your coach and continue to Fiumicino airport.

All roads may lead to Rome, but the Tiber is the river that gave the city its birth and its life. See Rome like you've never seen it before! Leave the port, enjoy the coach drive to Rome, meet your guide and begin a short sightseeing coach of the city passing the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus. At Lungotevere, you will get off the coach for a pleasant walk through Trastevere, one of the most authentic Roman quarters. Enjoy a tasting of local products in a typical open-air market. Visit the famous church of Santa Maria in Trastevere and the colourful Via della Lungaretta with its several osteria restaurants. Legend has it that the only island in the River Tiber is where Rome had its beginnings. Enjoy a relaxing and interesting 20-minute cruise on the river. Disembark at Castel Sant'Angelo for the second leg of your walking tour including the Vatican area with Via della Conciliazione and external look at St. Peter's Basilica. Next, discover the amazing sights of Baroque Rome, including Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Via Condotti and its famous VIP shops, Via del Babbuino, Piazza del Popolo and Viale Washington. Some free time will be scheduled along the itinerary. Board your coach to head back to your ship.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do: know your pasta dishes! Aiming to turn you into a true pasta connoisseur, this all-day outing not only reveals the best of Rome, but also includes a palate-popping pasta-tasting session during a sit-down lunch with a glass of wine. A 1.5-hour coach ride will see you reach Rome, followed by coach-based views of the Pyramid, Circus Maximus, and Caracalla Baths, plus a photo stop at the Colosseum. Back on the coach, you'll cross St. John's Square, St. Mary Major and Piazza della Repubblica to reach Ludovisi Parking and walk to the Trevi Fountain into which you should toss a coin. Stroll through the Baroque quarter, with the Pantheon and Navona Square. Finally, it's time to savour a sit-down pasta-tasting lunch, accompanied by a glass of wine. Learn the difference between Amatriciana, carbonara, gricia and cacio & pepe - classic Roman pasta sauces. With ingredients such as guanciale (cured pork cheek), pecorino cheese, eggs, tomatoes, and black pepper to tempt your taste buds, lunch promises to be truly delicious. Lastly, enjoy passing views of Castel Sant'Angelo and St. Peter's Dome on the way back.

An all-day date with the Eternal City awaits you on this outing, which begins with a relaxing 1.5-hour coach ride from the port. On arrival, you'll meet your guide and embark on a sightseeing route that includes the Pyramid of Cestius, the Baths of Caracalla, the ancient chariot racing stadium Circus Maximus, the city centre, and a photo stop at the Colosseum. You'll then take your leave of Rome and move on to Vatican City, where you can attend the Pope's Sunday Angelus on St. Peter's Square if you wish. Your guide will provide you with some information on the square and its splendid obelisk, after which you'll have about 2 hours to explore on your own. Get your Papal blessing at the Angelus or use the time to have lunch (at extra cost). Next up, you'll find yourself taking a stroll along the banks of the River Tiber and crossing the St. Angelo Bridge to reach Piazza Navona, one of Rome's most beautiful, and then passing the Pantheon before you re-board the coach for the unguided return journey to the port.

The origins of Tuscania goes back to the myth and legends; some want the town to be founded by Hercules' son, some others by Aeneas' son, Ascanius. Your excursion will begin with a 50-minute coach drive across the beautiful landscape until reaching the village of Tuscania. Enjoy a guided walking tour of its historical centre, surrounded by medieval walls and marvel at the view from the Tower of Lavello. Your guide will point out the village's main sights including the Church of Saint Peter; a unique opportunity to feel the atmosphere of central Italy's little villages. Next, after boarding your coach again, you will drive to Tarquinia, one of the 12 Etruscan cities in the past. Your guide will take you on an interesting itinerary to discover of this important village in the heart of Tuscia territory.

Take the family on this funny excursion to the popular Genoa Aquarium; a quick ferry transfer takes us to what is reputed to be one of Europe's best aquariums, renowned for its size and vast variety of marine creatures. As one of the most natural and environmentally friendly aquariums in the world, everyone will enjoy the collections of multi-coloured tropical fish, sharks, natural corals, penguins and dolphins. After you will have a quick boat trip back to the ship.

This enjoyable half-day outing begins with a boat transfer to Genoa's aquarium area from where you'll then set off on your city tour. A walk through the narrow lanes  called caruggi  of Genoa's historical district will see you reach the Diocesan Museum, located in the old residence of the canons of the "Cattedrale di San Lorenzo" and accessible through its lovely cloister. Follow your guide inside the Cardinal Fieschi's room, where recipes and instructions will be given to learn the use of mortar and pestle to prepare a classic pesto alla Genovese. In addition to seeing the expert preparing the pesto sauce, you'll also learn about the the ingredients and the secret of making perfect pesto and curious history of the green sauce. Next, walk to the lovely cloister, built in the XII century, for a tasty treat of bruschetta and focaccia with the freshly made pesto. The guided return walk will then take you through the historical district to the aquarium area and from there, back to the pier by boat.

Get off the ship and spend a day in magnificent Milano, the 2nd largest city in Italy as regards to population, politics and cultural affairs, and the first in the field of commerce, industry and banking. Relax on your 2-hour coach drive on the motorway from Genoa to Milan. Upon arrival, begin a 1.5-hour guided walking tour that will unveil some of Milan's best spots: Piazza Castello until reaching "La Scala"  Milan's Opera House, "Galleria Vittorio Emanuele" and Cathedral Square. Enjoy some free time in "Piazza Duomo" looking for a nice place to have lunch or, for the braver, to climb up the gold statue "Madonnina", the statue of the Virgin Mary placed atop the Cathedral. Alternatively, if you are a shopping lover, Milan is the place to be! Your 2-hour coach drive to Genoa port and your cruise ship ends this exclusive excursion.

Just a few hours of your time are all it takes to get the best of Genoa, beginning with a short walk from the port to your first stop: the truly resplendent 16th-century Palazzo del Principe. You will have a chance to explore the historical building with its frescoes, tapestries, artwork by old masters and other hidden treasures during the guided visit. The present-day town was built in the 18th century on the ruins of the 12th-century Crusader city. Acre has changed hands and names many times over the millennia, but since 1948, it has returned to its biblical name of Akko. Visit the Crusaders' Halls, built by the Hospital Knights (the Knights of St. John) and the subterranean Crusader city. Walk past Al Jazzar's Mosque, built in the 18th century, through the bazaar to the port and Khan el-Umdan (Inn of the Pillars), a handsome 18th-century caravanserai. Then descend to the 12th-century level again to visit the unforgettable Templars' Tunnel. This amazing engineering feat is a tunnel more than a thousand feet long, carved through solid stone, connecting the fortress (no longer standing) to the port (still intact). As its name implies, the Knights Templar constructed the tunnel, the Crusaders charged with guarding the temple in Jerusalem. The Saladins forced the Templars to retreat to Acre, which was their last bastion in Israel until the Fall of Acre in 1297. The tunnel will lead you to the lighthouse and the sea wall. You will have some free time to shop in the bazaar before returning to Haifa and the ship. If you are in need of relaxation and revival, you will not want to miss this great day out in the historic city of Massada with the chance to bathe in the relaxing mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea. An approx. 3.5-hour coach drive will take you to Massada via Ared, heading towards one of Israel's historic spots where scenes of battle, power and revolt played out with tragic results. Herod the Great had a fortress and a palace built on the Massada Plateau between 37 and 31 BC as a personal refuge in case of revolt. The plateau, situated 442 metres above the Dead Sea, was also the last point of resistance by the Jewish Zealots against the Romans, where 960 Zealots committed mass suicide by in 72 BC rather than surrender to the Romans. It is partly for these reasons that Massada is the most visited site in Israel after Jerusalem. As Massada is located high on this rocky plain we will need to ascend the mountain via cable car and once at the top, we will visit one of the oldest synagogues in the world. From these lofty heights, we will descend to the lowest point on earth - the Dead Sea - located 400 metres below sea level. Because of the high salt content, the water of the Dead Sea is undrinkable and cannot support life; hence its name. However, the salts have rich health benefits, therapeutic qualities, and the very high levels of saline help bathers to float! A place of miracles in ancient times and a popular spot with tourists and pilgrims today, this excursion covers another important sight of the Holy Land  the Sea of Galilee. This large water mass is not actually a "sea" but a lake: the largest freshwater lake in Israel and located near the Golan Heights. It was here that Jesus conducted most of his ministry activities and where many of Jesus' miracles happened, such as walking on water and the "Feeding of the 5000". We will drive to Nazareth, the largest city in the North District of Israel and the childhood home of Jesus, according to the New Testament. Many guests will be interested in paying a pilgrimage to the surprisingly modern "Basilica of the Annunciation", a church built on the site where the Gabriel announced the news of Jesus' birth to the Virgin Mary; visitors can see the underground grotto where Mary received the Annunciation. Next, we will reach Capernaum, the ancient city of Galilee; the town is mentioned in the New Testament in the Gospel of Luke and is reported to be the home of the Apostles Peter, Andrew, James, John, and Matthew. We will walk around the ruins of the synagogue where Jesus taught on the Sabbath and prayed. Proceed to Tabgha that is, according to tradition, the site of three of the most important episodes of the New Testament: the Sermon on the Mount, the miracle of the loaves and fishes and the appearance of Jesus after Resurrection. Leave the port and drive along the northern coastal road to the charming village of Fodele located in a pretty valley full of orange groves. The village is the birthplace of the famous painter El Greco who was born here in 1541. You can take a short walk through the village before continuing to Rethymnon. With its aristocratic XVI century buildings and fascinating mix of Byzantine and Hellenic-Roman remains, this town exudes a charming air of faded grandeur. Rethymnon is a mixture of Venetian and Turkish influences and is dominated by a Venetian fortress; you will have time to wander the narrow streets, admire the architecture and browse the local shops.

This tour will take you through some of the most beautiful areas of Crete that are characterized by lush vineyards and ancient olive trees. We will drive across the Aghia Varvara Pass to the southern part of Crete to reach the traditional village of Aghia Varvara where we will stop for a short visit. Our next destination will be the Messara Plain where we will explore the Minoan Palace of Phaestos. The Palace, situated in a magnificent location overlooking the Messara Plain and Ida Mountains, is second in importance and size to the palace of Knossos. The Italian archaeologist Frederico Halbherr excavated the Palace at the beginning of the XX century. The earliest settlements on the site date from the Neolithic Period and small settlements from the early Minoan period were scattered over the hill where the Palace stood. Phaestos was the centre of southern Crete, with two harbours, Matala and Kommos. Please note: this tour is not suitable for guests using a wheelchair.

This leisurely outing will see you savouring lovely views and delicious Greek flavours while you explore Crete by coach. You'll first take a drive-by look at the pretty hamlets of Hersonissos, Malia and Neapoli en route to the Vassilakis olive estate, which was founded in 1865 and is close to the ancient settlement of Drir?s. During a guided tour of the estate and mill, you'll be shown every step of the oil making process from olive to bottle  and from both a historical and modern-day perspective. As part of your tour, you'll also learn to tell good olive oil from bad and wrap your palate around a delicious tasting session of olive oil plus selected local food products. Next up, you'll pay a visit to Aghios Nikolaos, a delightful resort whose main attraction is Lake Voulismeni right in the middle of town. You'll have time to take a stroll around the pretty lake and take a look at the shops, especially jewellers, before you reboard the coach for the return transfer to the ship.

This enjoyable half-day tour offers a chance to touch base with two of Crete's proudest traditions  pottery and wine making  at the villages of Thrapsano and Peza, both of which lie inland from Heraklion. A scenic 45-minute coach ride to the southeast through Crete's varied interior will see you reach your first stop, the hillside village of Thrapsano. Life revolves around pottery here, with a main emphasis on making the giant jars known as pitharia, easily as tall as the average woman. You will get to visit one of the workshops and watch potters plying their time-honoured craft. Part two of the tour will then take you to Peza, a village with a long tradition of wine making. In fact, the surrounding region is responsible for producing around 70% of Cretan wine. A visit to a winery is scheduled here, along with a look at the vineyards and a chance to sample some of the delicious produce. The tour then ends with your return to the ship.

Take yourself back to the Aegean Bronze Age for a few hours to discover relics left by the Minoan civilisation that thrived on Crete from about 2,600 to 1,400 B.C.. Youll first board a coach and head for the outskirts of Heraklion to reach the archaeological site of Knossos, the one-time seat of King Minos. A guide will show you around the labyrinthine palace complex, which includes the royal living quarters, rooms used for state occasions, a theatre, storage areas and potters workshops. Although discovered by a Greek national in 1878, the site only began to be excavated around the turn of the century under the direction of the British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans. Next up is a visit to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum to continue the Minoan theme. The museum is home to an impressive collection of Minoan artefacts, from terracotta, marble and alabaster idols, through gold, jewellery, ivory and figurines to frescoes and sarcophagi, all of which go to provide a fascinating insight into the artistic flair of this ancient civilisation. Drive along the coastal road and through the spectacular ravine of Saint George to Kritsa passing some villages on the way. Upon your arrival, right at the entrance of the village, you will find the Byzantine church of Panagia Kera which boasts 700-year old frescoes depicting Biblical stories. Soon after the visit, you will have a little free time in the village before continuing along the northern coastal road to reach the typical Cretan coastal town of Aghios Nikolaos. You will see a small lagoon  Lake Voulismeni  right in the centre of the town; the lake, according to local legends, is bottomless. Walk along the lakeshore or explore the pretty streets and browse the shops selling typical souvenirs. Enjoy free time before returning to the port.

This excursion is ideal for those who prefer to explore on their own but will still like a short introduction on the way. We will drive to Larnaka, the oldest living city in Cyprus and originally known as Kition, the birthplace of the Stoic philosopher Zeno. Linked to early Christian times, Larnaca is a special place for Christians as the town's bishop was St. Lazaros (Lazarus) who chose to spend his "second life" here after Jesus raised him from the dead. A church built in his name exists on the spot where his remains were said to be found. When we reach Larnaca, you will have free time to explore on your own. We will then return to Limassol via Lefkara, a village famous for its traditional style of lace embroidery, known as the "Lefkaritika". Also, here there will be given free time to explore the village by yourself, before returning to the port.

Paphos is an ancient town located on the southern coast of Cyprus, 1 hour far from Limassol. Our first stop will be the Paphos Archaeological Park to visit the house of Dionysus, a luxury building of the Roman periods with rooms placed around a courtyard and destroyed by an earthquake in the 4th century. The house is famous for its beautiful floor mosaics that date back to the 3rd-century depicting scenes of mythology and hunting. The tour continues with a drive to St. Neofytos to visit the 12th-century "Egkleistra", an enclosure carved out of the mountain by the hermit Neofytos. The enclosure contains fine examples of 12th- to the 15th-centuries Byzantine frescoes. The Monastery contains an interesting Ecclesiastical Museum. You will have free time to stroll around this picturesque Paphos harbour which is located next to the Arcaheological Park. A short photo stop at Aphrodite's Rock, birthplace of the Greek goddess of love, is also on the itinerary and concludes your excursion.

The island's third largest city situated by a picturesque salt lake, Larnaca is the destination of this half-day excursion. After leaving the ship, an hour-long coach journey takes you to ancient Kition, home of the philosopher Zeno. The guided tour of the city centre takes you through its quaint old town, which boasts attractions including the old fort, now a museum, and the church of St. Lazarus. The excursion continues with a coach ride along the salt lake to reach Hala Sultan Tekesi, or the mosque of Umm Haram, built in 1816 over the tomb of Umm Haram, a relative of Prophet Mohhamed. After the visit to the mosque, the tour concludes with the return to the port.

This excursion may well take in the sights of Apollo, but we will also be paying homage to the Greek god Bacchus as we learn also about island's history of wine! Our first stop is at the Temple of Apollo, the largest and most important religious centre on the island and which was in continuous use from the VIII century BC to the IV century AD. We will continue to the nearby village of Kolossi to visit the castle, left over from the time of the Crusaders in Cyprus. The XIII century Kolossi Castle is linked to the history of wine production on the island, in particular to the manifacture of the local Commandaria wine. Our tour includes a visit to the Cyprus wine museum to learn about the 7500-year tradition of winemaking in Cyprus. Naturally, we will have time to sample a glass of Cyprus wine before returning to the port.

A short drive by coach takes you to the remains of the ancient town of Kourion, which survived from antiquity until the early middle ages, and is considered the most important archaeological site on the island. Overlooking the bay of Episkopi, the site is a constant discovery thanks to ongoing excavations that bring to light new treasures. The guided tour will let you discover the fully restored Greco-Roman theatre and the House of Eustolio with its beautiful floor mosaics. You will learn that the House was originally a Roman villa and then was turned into a public recreation centre. The excursion continues to Omodos, a picturesque small town located inland at 800 metres above sea level, and well known for the wine that is produced in the surrounding area. You will visit a local winery for a delicious wine-tasting session including the Zivania, the Cypriot pomace brandy. Then, take a stroll in Omodos, explore its perfectly preserved historical centre and visit the Church of the Holy Cross. Tradition has it that a piece of the rope with which Jesus was tied to the cross is kept in the church. The tour ends with your return to the ship.

You will have free time for shopping before travelling along the salt lake of Larnaca to reach Hala Sultan Tekesi, or the mosque of Umm Haram, built in 1816 over the tomb of Umm Haram, a relative of Prophet Mohhamed. Visit the mosque and return to the port.

Departing from the port of Messina, an approx. 1.5-hour coach ride will take you to Mount Etna, Europe's highest volcano reaching almost 3.300 m above sea level, on a route that will also pass through Zafferana Etnea, a town situated on the volcano's southern flank that affords lovely views of the mountain and the sea. Once at the Rifugio Sapienza, which was buried twice during eruptions over the years, at an elevation of 1.900 metres, you'll then walk to the two famous Silvestri craters amid an otherworldly lava landscape of outstanding natural beauty. Breathtaking views of the city of Catania below also present themselves to visitors, a perfect vista for a snapshot. Your adventurous volcano tour ends with your return to the port and your ship.

Spend a day off the ship, first indulging in some retail therapy in the beautiful old city of Taormina, then relaxing on a private beach in Giardini Naxos - perfect for the entire family. Your outing begins with 50 minutes on a coach to reach Taormina, where you'll then head for its main thoroughfare: Corso Umberto. Free time will be yours here to do some shopping in the many stores that line the historical street. Moving on again, you'll then make your way to the nearby coastal resort of Giardini Naxos and the private "Sayonara" beach. You'll have about 3 hours to do whatever you please here - swim, relax on the sand, play with the kids, or go for a stroll. The coach will be waiting at the appointed time to return you to the ship.

Joining this half-day outing will take you out of and north of Messina to the village of Ganzirri, one of Sicily's absolute must-sees. As a typical fishing village, Ganzirri sits on the banks of Lake Ganzirri and is known for farming clams and mussels, hunting swordfish, and catching lobster in handmade pots, a rarity nowadays. Along with another nearby lake called Pantano Piccolo, these two bodies of water are directly linked to the Ionian Sea on the one side and the Tyrrhenian Sea on the other. You'll be boarding a boat piloted by one of the local fishermen - called cocciulari - for a jaunt on the lake. And as you skim over the water, separated from the sea by only a narrow ribbon of land, you'll be able to listen to tales of local myths and legends. As a final treat, there'll also be a tasting session of fresh mussels and clams. Your return to the ship brings the outing to a close.

After leaving the port, enjoy a panoramic coach drive through Messina with a glimpse at its main touristic sites including the Fountain of Neptun, the Court House and the University. Enjoy the wonderful view before continuing to Corvaia Palace (external visit); an historic XV century building that formerly housed the Sicilian Parliament. We will also admire the small Roman theatre or "Odeon" (external visit) of Taormina and the St. Nicholas Cathedral. Free time for shopping.

Your exclusive look at Messina begins with a coach ride up to the religious memorial of Cristo Re, which was built in Baroque style in 1937 and now commemorates Sicilian soldiers who fell in WWI and WWII. The views of the Strait and the city are fabulous from this spot and a stop is scheduled for you to take photos. Moving on, you'll head for Piazza del Duomo for an outside look at the bell tower and the 12th-century cathedral before taking a break for a savoury arancino, a Sicilian deep-fried stuffed rice ball. Then you'll make your way to Piazza Cairoli in the centre of town, where you'll have some free time to go shopping. Before leaving the square, taste a sweet deep-fried and ricotta-filled pastry called cannolo, you'll move on by coach to the beautiful Lago di Ganzirri for a photo stop and some time for independent exploration.
