Bathed in unspoiled beauty, Peggy’s Cove has long been an inspiration for artists and, more recently, has become an irresistible lure for adventurers like you. Colorful houses and fishing shacks perch atop a rocky outcropping, waiting to be captured in your best vacation photos. At the lighthouse that is surely the most-photographed building in Canada, the restless waters of the Atlantic have honed the surrounding rock with the wear and tear of the ocean and its punishing storms. You’ll leave here with iconic photos to treasure for a lifetime.

From the moment you leave the pier, your kilted guide will point out interesting sites and vistas all the way to Peggy’s Cove. Here, you will see for yourself the impressive rock formations and coastal beauty of this rustic, working fishing village. At the lighthouse -- perhaps the most-photographed building in Canada -- take spectacular photos of the building against the surrounding rock. Take advantage of some free time to explore on your own the galleries and shops of Peggy’s Cove. Take photos, talk to the locals, or try the famous and fabulous local gingerbread. If you wish, join your guide for a live lobster demonstration -- you can even hold a live lobster if you’re game.

See Halifax’s charming architecture and tree-lined streets -- remnants of its fascinating 269-year history -- as your guide tells of the pirates and princes, press gangs and brewers who have helped shape the city.

Meet your guide at the pier and walk to the heliport in Qaqortoq. Listen to brief safety instructions and step aboard the helicopter; then, you'll take off towards the glacier, seeing Arctic mountains, fjords and fields from above.

Meet your guide at the pier and walk across town to where the real adventures begins. You'll set out on the trail that leads around the large lake behind the town. Your guide will tell you all about the Greenland's natural environment -- the vegetation, native and endemic animals, and how the lake is made by the Inland Ice Sheet.

Eric the Red visited Greenland for the first time in AD 982. Your visit today includes much of the scenery that he would have seen a thousand years ago. Board a boat at the Qaqortoq marina and motor across the fjord the surrounds the town. Your destination is the church in Hvalsø, built in AD 1300. Hvalsø was the last place in Greenland to be inhabited by the Norse. When the Medieval Warming Period came to an end, the Vikings returned to Norway. Evidence of their time here remains in the physical form of stone ruins, and in written form in the magnificent Sagas. Visit the church, which was the site of the last Viking wedding in Greenland. It is still one of the best-preserved churches in all of Greenland. Take the time to sit close to the walls and imagine Arctic life back in the 14th century, when Greenland really was green.

Set off from the pier on a guided walk through the town of Qaqortoq. You will pass the museum and the town's famous fountain en route to the Old Town area Watch for the church and for local shops selling everything from household items to reindeer skins and hand-made souvenirs. You'll also see Qaqortoq's school. As you walk, your guide will tell you all about life in the Arctic. You'll gain some insights into the life and times of the largest village in South Greenland with an impressive 3,500 inhabitants.

You've done hot springs before, but not like this. Hot springs normally come from volcanic activity, but here in Greenland, the springs are so deep that the heat comes from under the earth's mantle. Relaxing in these very special pools comes complete with a view towards the icebergs floating in the fjord beside you.

The Blue Lagoon is located southeast of Reykjavík, near the fishing village of Grindavík, on the Reykjanes peninsula. A high-temperature geothermal field supplies the Reykjanes district with hot water and steam to run a power plant, and it is the mineral-rich overflow water from this operation that fills the bathing lagoon. The geothermal water is pumped up from 6,000 feet below the earth's surface. High levels of silica, minerals and algae give the Blue Lagoon its rich, blue color and also form a light natural sediment on the bottom.

From Reykjavík you will drive over the Mosfellsheidi Heath to beautiful Thingvellir National Park -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a primary site of Iceland's geological and historic heritage.

Walk through a massive geological fault to the place where Europe's oldest national legislative assembly, the Icelandic Althing, was established in AD 930. Astonishingly, it convened here in grandiose surroundings every summer for nearly eight centuries.

The Reykjavík capital area consists of seven municipalities with approximately 190,000 inhabitants. With plenty of space, clean air and natural green energy, Reykjavík clearly revels in its reputation as being one of the most modern, forward-thinking societies in Europe. The city's 'Pure Energy' slogan says it all.

This is a predominantly green-focused tour that circles the active 2,635-foot Hengill Volcano, located just a couple of miles from Reykjavík. Hengill last erupted approximately 2,000 years ago, but its numerous natural hot springs, colorful steam vents and fumaroles still dot the surrounding landscape. Hengill produces hydro and geothermal power, which provide the capital with plentiful hot water and electricity.

This is an excellent opportunity for horse experts and novices alike to enjoy horseback riding in the Icelandic countryside on the famous breed of Icelandic pony. It is a purebred descendent of the horses brought to Iceland by the Vikings more than 1,000 years ago. Hardy, sure-footed and friendly by nature, Icelandic horses are extremely pleasant to ride.

Tour the Old Town of Saint-Pierre to discover many fundamental themes of the history and heritage of Saint-Pierre. You'll explore the impact of the fishing industry, styles of housing and architecture, the fires, and Prohibition.

Take a guided tour of Sailor's Island. Abandoned by the last of its residents in 1963, the island is now a living museum, Chronicling the turn of the 20th century, when life revolved around religion, Atlantic cod fishing, and the weather.

The Municipal Sailing School of Saint-Pierre is accredited by the French Sailing Federation, and was founded in 1988. This quality label is awarded each year and the school provides standardized education, hospitality and quality materials. This is where you'll board a zodiac boat to discover the richness of the Saint-Pierre et Miquelon archipelago from a waterside perspective. Cliffs and coves, marine mammals and an exceptional bird colony on Grand Colombier are the points of interest. Your guide adds local wisdom in the form of cultural, historical and geological references.

Your guide will point out the Basilica of St John's, the Anglican Cathedral, Government House, St John's City Hall, the Murray Premises, the Yellowbelly Corner Building, the Courthouse and the Newfoundland Museum along the way.

A panoramic drive take you through the city to see an interesting mixture of architecture -- brightly colored wooden houses, stone churches, colonial buildings and modern commercial structures, Government House, Garrison Church and the Basilica of St John the Baptist.

Discover St John's, the New World's first city, on a panoramic drive. You'll travel its oldest streets and explore the birthplace of what was later to become the British Empire. You'll drive by historic churches and the colorful Victorian wooden houses that are so typical of St John's.

From Akureyri, you'll drive to one of Iceland's most famous turf houses at Laufás. The 19th-century turf farmhouse here was built in the traditional Icelandic style of stone and turf, and it is now one of the last of its kind in the country. It is an interesting regional museum and has the original implements and equipment so essential to life in past centuries, and a beautiful country church (1865). The Icelandic turf house was the product of a difficult climate, offering superior insulation compared to buildings solely made of wood or stone. The relative difficulty of obtaining other construction materials in sufficient quantities also played a significant role in the adoption of turf as a building material. This is a genuine glimpse into the Icelanders' way of life from the 9th century to the 19th century.

Akureyri has 18,000 inhabitants and is Iceland's second most important commercial and industrial center. As you travel through its timeline of cityhood, stop in front of a beautiful modern church and stroll through the lovely Botanical Gardens.

Transfer to Akureyri airport to board a light aircraft and enjoy a 20-minute scenic flight over Iceland's picturesque northern region.

Begin with a drive along the coast of Iceland's longest fjord, Eyjafjörður, with an excellent view of Akureyri and its surrounding mountains.

The Nature Baths at Myvatn offer bathers a completely natural, relaxing dip amid clouds of steam, and a luxurious swim in a pool of geo-thermal water drawn from depths of 7,000 feet. Active volcanoes and belching steam vents populate the vicinity. The baths contain a unique blend of minerals, silicates and geo-thermal microorganisms. The warm, soothing waters are beneficial to skin and spirit alike. Facilities include a reception area and café, changing rooms and showers, as well as three natural steam baths and a 53,000-square-foot outdoor geo-thermal bathing pool maintained at a constant temperature of 100 - 104º F. Due to its chemical composition, undesirable bacteria and flora cannot live in the lagoon, making chlorine or other disinfectants redundant.

Iceland is one of the best locations in the world to enjoy whale watching. The abundance of marine life in the waters around Akureyri provides ideal feeding grounds, attracting more than twenty species of whales, dolphins and porpoises.

Head to Audun's Stone & Mineral Museum. Audun -- a local man -- used to collect rocks and stones as a hobby. Now, it could more aptly be described as an obsession. When his collection grew to gargantuan proportions, he invested in a rock cutter and polishing equipment. The next step was to open a stone and mineral museum so that he could store, and of course share, his very interesting geode collection. During your visit, you'll gain a whole new perspective on the hidden dimensions of everyday rocks. What is very plain and uninteresting on the outside can be dazzlingly beautiful on the inside, once the rock is cut and polished. All the rocks and minerals on display here were found locally. The east coast of Iceland abounds with agate, quartz crystal, zeolyte and many other minerals.

Travel by bus from Djúpivogur to the glacier lagoon known to the locals as Jökulsárlón. Here you will find Vatnajökull -- the largest glacier in all of Europe. You will see magnificent landscapes and touch the ice.

You'll set off in a comfortable Econoliner van to experience the East Fjords' amazing natural wonders in the Valley of Waterfalls -- the Fossardalur Valley. Enjoy the view of the impressive Berufjordur Fjord with its towering mountains and incredible rock formations. Explore the magnificent landscape, numerous waterfalls, mountainsides and rocks where sedimentary layers are easily seen. This is also reindeer territory, so keep your eyes peeled.

You'll leave the tiny fishing village of Djúpivogur and stop at the town of Höfn. From there, continue through the picturesque mountainous region to the outlet of the Hoffellsjökull Glacier. Hoffellsjökull was at its largest around 1890, and for the next 50 years it reached all the way to the moraine ridge that now envelops the lake in front of the glacier. Back then, trucks were driven up to this ridge and filled with ice, which they transported to the town of Höfn. The ice was used for chilling fish, both at sea aboard fishing boats and on shore. Due to climate changes, Hoffellsjökull Glacier has now retreated a considerable distance, leaving a deep glacial lagoon in its wake. The area around the glacier is the habitat of several rare Icelandic plants and a great variety of birds.

Your tour starts with a drive through the spectacular and steep Måbødalen Valley. The road leads to the huge Hardanger Mountain Plateau -- actually the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. It is also part of Norway's largest National Park.

Drive through the village of Eidfjord before you continue up the steep Måbødalen Valley. The old road to the top was once only four miles, made up of an alarming series of hairpin bends carved precariously into the mountainside. Today there is a new route -- appreciably safer, albeit less thrilling. It leads to the enormous Hardanger Mountain Plateau -- the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe and one of the few places in Norway where wild reindeer herds still live untended. Keep your eyes peeled; but they are elusive creatures -- brilliantly camouflaged and thus seldom seen.

This self-drive, guided all-terrain-vehicle safari starts from the garage in the center of Honningsvåg. After a safety briefing and instructions, put on your driving suit and climb aboard your ATV. You will head towards NATO Mountain and experience Magerøy Island's unique nature. Stop for photos at several stunning viewpoints.

Watch for reindeer on your transfer to the North Cape today. As you set out from Honningsvåg, you’ll quickly see that a barren landscape is the hallmark of the windswept Arctic Circle where the vegetation appears sparse indeed. To the botanist, however, it is quite plentiful, with 200 species of plants growing here. The drive to the North Cape will be about 45 minutes.

The giant king crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus) was introduced to the Barents Sea by Russian scientists during the 1960s. The crab thrived in these waters, and spread quite rapidly to the west where it can now be found along the north Norwegian coast. As the number of this species is in the millions, it naturally consumes a great deal, and there is now concern that these crabs may have an impact on the local ecosystem. Controlled crab fishing is now allowed. The meat is delicious and can compete with lobster on the commercial market. King crab can live to 30 years, measure up to 6½ feet between its claws and weigh as much as 22 pounds. The catch in the crab pots that will be pulled today, however, will most likely be between 6½ and 15½ pounds.

The North Cape itself is an enormous rock with a steep wall climbing more than 1,000 feet from the Arctic Ocean below. At a latitude of 71 degree, 10’ north, the North Cape is remarkably civilized, with a post office, chapel, bar and restaurant. And, at the North Cape Hall, you’ll find a shopping area and a 180 degree wide-screen cinema. A spectacular 14-minute audiovisual takes you on a journey of a landscape filled with contrasts, light and nature. The people’s story and history is told with beautiful pictures and music. Leaving town, you'll skirt the shoreline of Skipsfjord, where weekend huts huddle at the water's edge. The road climbs from there to an upland plateau, where the landscape appears barren but in fact is riddled with a massive variety of plants. In the summer months some four to five thousand reindeer graze here, and with a bit of luck you will spot some of them. They are domesticated and belong to the Sami people -- a minority group living mainly in the county of Finnmark. Ten percent of Sami still live a nomadic life, following their reindeer to the coast in spring and returning inland in the fall.

From Ísafjorður, you’ll set out on a panoramic drive through the breathtaking scenery of the Westfjords area. Visit Skrúður – the first Icelandic botanic garden, founded in 1909. This small garden is the brainchild of the former minister and principal of Núpur -- cultivation pioneer of Iceland. He grew plants and vegetables that nobody ever dreamed could germinate so far north or in such a rugged landscape and harsh climate.

The landscape in Jökulfirdir Fjord is very beautiful, with impressive, steep snow-flecked mountains and quiet, secluded coves. In the late 1940s, all 80 inhabitants of Hesteyri village made the decision to move away. At the time, they were living without telephone, electricity and roads. By 1952, the village was completely abandoned.

Leave Ísafjördur harbor by boat to cruise Djupfjord and reach the island of Vigur. This island offers a wealth of magnificent bird life including puffins, eider ducks and arctic terns. The only windmill of the country, almost 160 years old, is still maintained on the island. Here, the farmers live off the land and by harvesting the down of eider ducks.

Stroll through Westfjord's largest town, Ísafjörður, with your local guide. Ísafjörður is interesting to explore on foot -- its back streets and old houses are unique in all of Iceland.

Paamiut means 'those who reside by the mouth (of the fiord)' and, indeed, people have lived here since around 1500 BC -- first the Native Kalaallisut people; then, Norse settlers. The modern community was founded on trading fur and whale products. It also became known for its soapstone artists. The town has one of the finest churches in Greenland, built in 1909 from wood in the Norwegian style.

Set off from the pier on a guided walk through the town of Qaqortoq. You will pass the museum and the town's famous fountain en route to the Old Town area. Watch for the church and for local shops selling everything from household items to reindeer skins and hand-made souvenirs. You'll also see Qaqortoq's school. As you walk, your guide will tell you all about life in the Arctic. You'll gain some insights into the life and times of the largest village in South Greenland with an impressive 3,500 inhabitants.

From Reykjavík you will drive over the Mosfellsheidi Heath to beautiful Thingvellir National Park -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a primary site of Iceland's geological and historic heritage. It was here in AD 930 that the Vikings formed the Althingi -- the oldest parliament in the world still in existence today.

On your way to Ringve Museum today, you will pass through Trondheim's streets and stop at the Nidaros Cathedral for a visit inside. A splendid Gothic structure dating back to the 12th century, this impressive church is built over the grave of St Olaf and boasts gorgeous stained-glass windows.

A panoramic drive takes you through the city center before you head out of town towards Sverresli. Enjoy views of the fjord and wood-clad hills before reaching Bymarka. This is an area of natural landscapes with contrasting scenery -- a haven for the people of Trondheim in both winter and summer.

Head upriver to Fannrem, where you will board the narrow-gauge Thamshavn Railway, originally built to transport ore from the mine to the harbor. It re-opened as a museum railway in 1983, but you'll ride in a carriage that dates back to 1908. This railway line is the only one in Scandinavia with a gauge of 1,000 mm (one meter) and few lines have sharper curves or steeper climbs.
